At this year’s Reliable Plant conference, discussion focused on lubricants, a key aspect of reliability programs.
However, air quality received less attention, despite its significant impact on performance and cost. In many plants, HVAC systems pull in fresh outdoor air and recirculate indoor air from processes, which can contain dust, soot, fumes, lint, and mist.
These contaminants can clog systems, reduce efficiency, and drive up operating costs if left unmanaged.
Filters alone don’t guarantee clean air.
Without monitoring, it is difficult to determine the level of contaminants, filter loading rates, or system performance.
Author’s summary: Cleaner air is crucial for plant reliability.
