Public Comment on Island Marble Butterfly Endangered Status

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) is accepting public comments on a proposal to classify the island marble butterfly as an endangered species in Washington.

The public comment period is open through December 22, 2025.

“There is only one remaining population of island marble in Washington, on San Juan Island,” said Taylor Cotten, WDFW conservation assessment section manager.
