This edition of Teen Corner features eight teens discussing their family Halloween traditions and the challenges of trick-or-treating with food allergies.
One teen shares their approach to handling Halloween treats, using separate buckets for chocolate, candy without top allergens, and non-food items, and informing kids which candy is which when handing them out.
My neighborhood is very large, and we have lots of kids that come to our house with allergies. It is really rewarding to see how excited kids with food allergies, like me, get when they realize candy or items are available to them.
Another initiative involved delivering teal pumpkins filled with non-food treats to local schools and businesses, receiving positive feedback on the impact of inclusion for students with food allergies.
