Study Finds Big Cause of Painful UTIs

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are a common health issue, especially for women, with half of all women expected to have at least one UTI during their lifetime.

Many women face repeated infections, causing discomfort and frustration, and if left untreated, UTIs can lead to serious health problems.

Treating UTIs can be challenging, as doctors often have to guess which bacteria are causing the infection, and lab tests take several days.

A new solution has been developed by scientists at ETH Zurich and Balgrist University Hospital, using special viruses called bacteriophages to quickly identify the bacteria.

A fast and clever test using bacteriophages, or phages, that naturally attack bacteria, has been created.

This new test could help solve the problem of antibiotic resistance, which can occur when the wrong antibiotics are prescribed.
