The plans to build a hospice serving Laois and three other counties have been delayed again.
The proposed hospice, to be located in Offaly, would provide a 20-bedroom in-patient facility with daycare services for Laois, Offaly, Westmeath, and Longford, the only counties in Ireland without a hospice for end-of-life patients.
The application has been on hold since July, when Offaly County Council planners requested more information. Disagreements over the site location in Offaly have contributed to the delay.
Offaly Hospice Foundation objected to the chosen site in a submission to the planning application.
Author's summary: Delay in building a hospice for four Irish counties.
