Creation of the MVP Character
Conrad Thompson of AdFreeShows.com interviewed former WWE creative team member Andrew Goldstein for The Insiders podcast, where Goldstein shared how Dusty Rhodes created the MVP gimmick, inspired by an NFL star.
According to Goldstein, Rhodes came up with the idea for the MVP character by combining a full body suit with a sports-styled presentation, similar to that of former US Champion and current AEW star.
“You could just see the wheel spinning, I mean, the best example of that is MVP”
Goldstein explained that MVP was in developmental at the time, working on a early version of his character. Goldstein, being a big Eagles fan, noted that it was around the time when the Eagles had Terrell Owens, which likely influenced Rhodes' idea.
