The Edmonton Oilers' decision to make Jeff Skinner a healthy scratch has raised questions about his role in the team.
Skinner, a 32-year-old left winger, has struggled in his first year with the organization, scoring only seven goals and 15 points in 40 games.
His average ice time has also decreased, from 14:47 in October to 12:36 overall this season, with an average of 9:27 or less in three of his last five games.
According to Adam Proteau, four other NHL teams could give Skinner a bigger role than what he's getting currently.
Signing him to a one-year, $3-million contract now seems like a mistake.
Skinner's poor fit with Edmonton doesn't mean he's no longer an intriguing potential asset for other teams.
