Arizona Attorney General Threatens to Sue House Speaker

Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes is giving House Speaker Mike Johnson an ultimatum: schedule Rep.-elect Adelita Grijalva's swearing-in ceremony within two days or face a lawsuit.

Three weeks have passed since Grijalva was elected to represent Arizona's 7th Congressional District, yet she remains unsworn. Mayes has sent a letter to Johnson's office, warning of litigation if the oath of office ceremony is not scheduled by Thursday, prior to the end of the federal government shutdown.

The letter was announced during the official canvas of the September 23 special election results. Mayes stated that she will take action to ensure Grijalva is sworn in, as required by law.

"I will not stand idly by while the rights of Arizona's voters are denied," said Mayes.

The situation remains unresolved, with the fate of Grijalva's swearing-in hanging in the balance.
