Three people have died in a fiery plane crash at Shellharbour airport on Saturday.
The private aircraft, a Piper Cherokee Lance, was headed to Bathurst when it crashed and caught fire about 10am.
"At that point, witnesses have described the aircraft has then dipped with its left wing coming down and contacting the tarmac,"
said Lake Illawarra police district's chief inspector Aaron Wunderlich. The plane was engulfed in flames, and all three people on board were confirmed deceased.
A number of people witnessed the crash, including Rural Fire Service crews who were conducting a training exercise at the airport.
