Introducing the U-Hawk Prototype
Sikorsky has unveiled a Black Hawk prototype that transforms into an autonomous aircraft, designed to accompany manned missions in the air.
The U-Hawk, as it's called, retains the familiar size, shape, rotors, and green paint job of the Army's 50-year-old Black Hawk, but with a new front end and no pilots, giving it a sci-fi feel.
- The cockpit and nose of the UH-60 have been replaced with clam shell-style opening doors.
- The doors are wide and tall enough for an ATV-sized vehicle to be driven onboard via a built-in ramp.
The new design is part drone, part Transformer, and is intended to support manned missions in the air.
