The Outrun is the screen adaptation of Amy Liptrot’s memoir. Ronan was unable to attend the event at the DoubleTree by Hilton Glasgow Central, marking her first BAFTA win after several prior nominations. Izuka Hoyle, Ronan’s friend and fellow nominee, accepted the trophy on her behalf and delivered a message from the actor. In it, Ronan described The Outrun as an “incredible team effort” and offered thanks to the full creative team, as well as to Liptrot, whose book inspired Nora Fingscheidt’s film. She also expressed deep appreciation for the people of Orkney, noting: “This would not have been possible without you, your willingness to let us into your lives, your homes, your story.” Ronan ended by praising Hoyle as a “beautiful, rare gem,” adding: “The work you’ve seen from her so far is only the beginning. Watch her soar.”
Scottish actor James McArdle was also recognised on the night, receiving the Actor Film/Television award for his role in Darren Thornton’s Irish comedy-drama Four Mothers. In his acceptance speech, McArdle thanked the filmmakers, the producers, and the ensemble cast, joking that “to be trapped in a bus with these four octogenarians was a real, real joy.”
