UL pulls off dramatic road win with goal line stand on final play

A wild and woolly first half eased into a more conventional second half as UL earned a 34-30 road victory over Arkansas State on Thursday at Centennial Bank Stadium. UL running back Zylan Perry celebrated a touchdown run in Jonesboro, Arkansas, and UL quarterback Lunch Winfield raced to the corner for a score.

The Cajuns managed 10 points after halftime to hold on for the critical road win, pushing UL to 5-6 on the season. “This team's been through too much to not finish this game, you know, and not win it,” UL coach Michael Desormeaux said. “I didn't know how it was going to happen, but I knew that we had been through too much for it to come up this short right here.”

The Cajuns must now defeat UL Monroe in next Saturday’s 2 p.m. home game to earn bowl eligibility. UL’s offense punted from the ASU 43 with 2:26 left to play. Arkansas State reached UL 2 in the final seconds of the game after a pass interference flag, but the Cajuns’ defense stopped the Red Wolves twice from the 2 in the final six seconds to preserve the win.
