Texans RB Joe Mixon Not Expected To Play In 2025

NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport states that Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon is not expected to play during the 2025 season as he recovers from an offseason foot injury.

“Mixon will likely remain on the PUP list for the rest of the year,” Rapoport added, noting that Houston plans to move forward with running backs Nick Chubb and Woody Marks.

Texans General Manager Nick Caserio mentioned that the team still has no timetable for Mixon’s return to the field. Mixon remains under contract until 2026, but the Texans could part ways with him this offseason with only $2 million in dead cap if released before June 1.

Career and Contract Details

Mixon, 29, was a second-round pick by the Cincinnati Bengals in 2017. After completing his four-year, $5.45 million rookie deal, he re-signed with Cincinnati on a four-year, $48 million extension before the 2019 season.

In 2024, the Bengals traded Mixon to the Texans for a seventh-round draft pick. He then agreed to a three-year, $27 million extension with Houston, which includes $14 million guaranteed.
