Oklahoma City Thunder guard Ajay Mitchell delivered his fourth 20+ point game in a 114-100 comeback win against the Memphis Grizzlies. As the team’s 2025-26 season gains momentum, Mitchell shared the influence Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has had on him.
Starting in place of Lu Dort, Mitchell scored 21 points on 8-of-15 shooting, including two three-pointers. He also contributed six rebounds, four assists, and three steals. His strong performance helped erase a 19-point deficit and secured a 14-point victory, finishing the Thunder’s four-game road trip with a 3-1 record in Memphis.
“The first thing is just seeing his work ethic. Every day he's the first guy in the gym/last one to leave. So, it's been awesome to see him work, and, obviously, seeing the results on the court.”
Gilgeous-Alexander leads a talented and diverse group of guards, including veterans like Alex Caruso and younger players such as Isaiah Joe, Cason Wallace, and Lu Dort. Wallace has been starting while All-Star Jalen Williams recovers from a right wrist injury. Mitchell sees SGA’s leadership and dedication as setting a standard that positively impacts the whole team.
Mitchell's comments highlight how Gilgeous-Alexander’s leadership goes beyond individual talent to fostering team unity and resilience.
