Metro Vancouver Weather: Rainfall Warning Issued, Power Outages Possible

Stormy conditions persist across Metro Vancouver, with more rainstorms forecast through the weekend. The usual fall pattern of strong but spaced-out systems has been replaced by frequent, smaller storms hitting the South Coast. As a result, residents have had few dry moments to enjoy autumn’s clear days.

According to Environment Canada meteorologist Brian Proctor, the Lower Mainland is currently experiencing “fairly typical fall weather,” though he notes that many days bring precipitation with limited breaks.

A frontal system continues to feed waves of moisture over Vancouver Island and southern British Columbia. Areas like Ladner and Tsawwassen may record 20–30 mm of rainfall by Thursday afternoon, while regions near Vancouver International Airport could reach 30–40 mm. Toward the North Shore, Port Moody, and Port Coquitlam, totals are expected between 40 and 70 mm.

Rainfall Warning and Wind Forecast

A rainfall warning remains in effect for the North Shore as a second front approaches, bringing another 30–40 mm by Friday morning. Strong wind gusts could also lead to power disruptions.

“We’ll see some decent 30 km/h winds gusting to 50 km/h and up to 70 km/h in the Strait of Georgia,” said Proctor, adding that power outages are possible with strong gusts.

Water accumulation is also expected on roads and in low-lying spots, increasing the risk of flooding and travel delays.

Summary

The region faces persistent rainfall and strong winds through Friday, with warnings in place for potential power outages and localized flooding.

Author’s summary: Persistent fall rain and gusty winds are expected to intensify in Metro Vancouver, with up to 70 mm possible on the North Shore and a risk of power outages.
