Despite the dominant statistics, the game presented challenges. Homan benefited from a pivotal break in the third end, stealing two points when Lawes’ shot came up light and tight. Later, in the seventh end, Homan took a strategic risk with a complex shot that secured a two-point score.
“Yeah, getting two there was huge,” said Sarah Wilkes, Team Homan’s lead stone thrower. “Going into that end, we kind of talked about what was ideal. Being forced was probably the least ideal out of all the situations. Definitely got a little lucky with the way we got the two, but it was a huge momentum swing for sure.”
The critical seventh-end shot involved Homan driving Lawes’s stone out the back; it then clipped another rock outside the house, which bumped a Homan stone into the scoring rings to complete the deuce.
