A Havant woman is in “disbelief” after winning the People’s Postcode Lottery because she forgot to cancel her direct debit.
Juliette Spencer-Besant, 47, won £250,000 when the postcode PO9 2LD, covering a nine-storey block of flats in Leigh Park, was drawn as the weekly Millionaire Street prize. Three ticket holders in that postcode each received a quarter of a million pounds.
Juliette described the event as the “luckiest thing that’s ever happened” to her. She was stunned when the Postcode Lottery ambassador, Judie McCourt, visited her with the surprise cheque. Juliette said:
“There was disbelief when I saw the cheque and then a wave of emotion came over me. But I managed to pull it together.”
Juliette intended to cancel her lottery subscription but got distracted. She explained:
“I was going to cancel a couple of months back, but I’m really bad at personal stuff. I was going through direct debits and bits and pieces. Promotion came up at work and I’ve been working for that for the last two months and never got round to it.”
She added that although she cancelled some other subscriptions, she didn’t manage to cancel the lottery subscription due to her busy life, calling her win “probably the luckiest thing that’s ever happened to me.”
Juliette plans to invest the money wisely, but she also intends to treat herself first.
