Jesus Cleanses the Temple

Jesus confronts corruption in the temple with courageous prophetic zeal, an act that ultimately leads him toward his crucifixion.

Vision of the Temple's Flowing Water

He led me to the temple entrance, where water flowed from beneath the threshold toward the east, as the temple faced east. The water came from below the south end of the temple’s threshold, south of the altar. Then he took me out through the north gate and led me outside to the eastern outer gate, where the water emerged on the south side.

“This water flows toward the eastern region and goes down into the Arabah; when it reaches the sea—the sea of stagnant waters—the water will become fresh. Wherever the river flows, every living creature that swarms will live, and there will be many fish.

The water will become fresh, and all life will thrive along the riverbanks. On both sides of the river, all kinds of trees will grow for food. Their leaves will never wither, nor will their fruit fail, for they will produce fresh fruit every month, nourished by water flowing from the sanctuary. Their fruit will be food, and their leaves for healing.”

Faith Amidst Earthly Turmoil

Therefore, we will not fear even if the earth changes, the mountains shake within the sea, the waters roar and foam, or the mountains tremble amid the tumult.
