Canada's Rachel Homan secured a record-extending 20th Grand Slam of Curling title by defeating Switzerland's Silvana Tirinzoni 7-4 in the final of the KIOTI GSOC Tahoe.
Homan's team, consisting of third Tracy Fleury, second Emma Miskew, and lead Sarah Wilkes, completed the tournament with a flawless 7-0 record. The victory earned them a prize of $42,000.
"Yeah, it's an unbelievable feeling, especially winning a game that was a battle out there for both teams," Homan said. "It's just really fun to play such an amazing team, and being able to pull out the win is an awesome feeling."
This final marked the third consecutive Grand Slam women’s final contested by the world’s top two teams, with Homan emerging victorious in all three. The Swiss team, led by Tirinzoni with teammates Alina Pätz, Carole Howald, and Selina Witschonke, suffered their only defeat of the week and earned $34,000.
Tirinzoni’s team holds an 18-3 record this season in Grand Slam play, with all losses coming against Homan in finals. They entered the match with the hammer and aimed to avoid repeating the previous month's CO-OP Tour Challenge setback, where a first-end hit and rollout gave Homan a crucial four-point steal.
Rachel Homan's flawless run to her 20th Grand Slam title solidifies her dominance in curling, overcoming a strong Swiss rival and maintaining a perfect tournament record.
