New Toyota Hilux bakkie fully revealed!

The next-generation Toyota Hilux has been officially unveiled, introducing updated styling, a refreshed interior, and an electric version. The debut took place in Thailand, marking the ninth generation of this legendary model—ten years after its predecessor first appeared.

Although the new Hilux continues to use the previous IMV platform, Toyota engineers added hydraulic engine mounts and shear-type cabin mounts to reduce vibration and improve comfort. Despite these changes, core dimensions and many body panels, including the doors, roof, and load bay, appear to remain unchanged.

For South Africa, this model holds exceptional importance. The Hilux, first introduced to South Africa in 1969, has remained the country’s top-selling vehicle for more than five decades. It is also built at Toyota South Africa Motors’ Prospecton plant in KwaZulu-Natal.

Design evolution

The most noticeable redesign can be seen at the front, where most trims feature a bold honeycomb-style grille reminiscent of the Corolla Cross. Sharper headlamps further modernize the Hilux’s rugged appearance while maintaining its strong character.

“Reduce vibrations and enhance ride comfort.”
