Avalon flags major upgrades ahead of international relaunch

Avalon Airport Announces Major Upgrades Ahead of International Relaunch

Avalon Airport is preparing significant enhancements before introducing new international Jetstar flights next year. This includes adding 1,000 new seats across both international and domestic terminals, upgrading runway lighting, installing new security equipment and CCTV, connecting water systems to the control tower, and expanding parking by 500 spaces.

Facility Improvements and New Services

Recently, the airport launched an improved freight facility. Starting March 2026, Jetstar will begin flights to Bali from Avalon. Additionally, a new public bus route will be introduced soon to complement the existing SkyBus service.

New Public Transport and Job Creation

A new Route 18 bus service will operate daily, linking Avalon Airport with Lara Station on the Geelong line. This aims to provide easier transit access for passengers and workers.

"This infrastructure will set the foundation for even more flights in regional Victoria for years to come," said Victoria’s Minister for Regional Development, Jaclyn Symes.

Victoria’s Minister for Public Transport, Gabrielle Williams, described the bus route as a "vital public transport connection for passengers and workers." She added, "The new bus route will deliver better public transport options for Avalon and ensure improved access for thousands of workers and passengers every day, together with the additional services on the Geelong Line delivered last year."

Economic and Community Impact

The upgrades are expected to create approximately 80 new jobs and boost the visitor economy in Victoria’s regional areas.

Author's summary: Avalon Airport's comprehensive upgrades, including new Jetstar flights and public transport links, will enhance regional connectivity and create jobs, supporting long-term growth in Victoria.
