Toyota has officially unveiled the ninth-generation Hilux, marking a major event in the automotive world. The launch occurred in Thailand, a crucial market for Toyota’s pickup production.
This latest model arrives ten years after the previous version and continues the Hilux's strong presence, remaining South Africa’s best-selling vehicle. It is locally produced at Toyota’s Prospecton plant in Durban.
The new Hilux will be introduced worldwide in 2026, featuring a wide array of configurations. A notable addition is the battery electric vehicle (BEV) version, which joins updated internal combustion engine (ICE) models. Available engines and trims will vary by region, with Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) set to announce specific local details.
The Hilux preserves its iconic boxy silhouette while sporting a fresh exterior update. On traditional engine models, the front end is distinguished by a redesigned honeycomb grille inspired by the refreshed Corolla Cross. Slim LED headlights and daytime running lights extend across the upper front, connected by a black horizontal bar that replaces the usual Toyota badge with bold “Toyota” lettering.
“The new Hilux features a noticeably refreshed exterior while maintaining its familiar, boxy shape, which has become a core part of its identity.”
These design choices emphasize both heritage and modern styling, reinforcing Hilux’s status in its segment.
The new Toyota Hilux blends its classic design with modern updates and EV technology, continuing its legacy as a versatile and popular pickup worldwide.
