The Panthers women’s soccer team concluded a challenging season with a stunning victory against the top-ranked Notre Dame at Ambrose Urbanic Field. The decisive moment came in the 85th minute when junior defender Mya Archibald scored a clean header from a late corner kick by senior forward Margaret Wilde, securing the win for Pitt.
“A team that had put up eight goals in a single match earlier this season was held scoreless by an underdog Pitt squad that refused to watch a trophy presentation on their home field.”
This victory marks the first time in program history that Pitt women’s soccer has defeated a No. 1 ranked opponent. Despite this high point, the team’s overall season was difficult, finishing with a 6-10-2 record and only two wins in the ACC, struggling with consistency in a highly competitive conference.
The Panthers capped a tough season with a landmark upset over No. 1 Notre Dame, showing grit and unity despite their overall struggles.
