Lucy Liu is embracing a fresh look with her new lob haircut, revealed in the trailer for the drama Rosemead. The style features a short, side-parted cut just above her collarbone.
Rosemead premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in June and will be released in theaters on December 5. The movie centers on Irene (played by Liu) and her son Joe (Lawrence Shou), who face the challenges of living with Joe's schizophrenia diagnosis.
The story is adapted from a 2017 Los Angeles Times article by Frank Shyong titled A dying mother's plan: Buy a gun. Kill her son.
This role marks a shift from Liu's usual lighthearted or action-oriented characters, seen in series and films like Ally McBeal, Watching the Detectives, and Why Women Kill.
“As there was not a lot that was known about this family, the script had to be pieced together,” Liu told Variety about Rosemead. “In some ways, it’s a little bit of a thriller, because people know the final act and some of the details, and then the rest had to be kind of filled in, in order to understand the dynamic between Irene and her son.”
At the Tribeca premiere, Liu also discussed her deep interest in this project and others like it during an interview with Parade.
Lucy Liu’s new role in Rosemead shows her versatility as an actress, paired with a striking new haircut that signals a fresh chapter in her career.
