Bryant Brown, a former Boundary County jail employee, faces an aggravated battery charge for allegedly assaulting an inmate in January 2023. Charges were filed in September 2023, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for November 17 at the Boundary County Courthouse.
Brown, 37, had two previous hearing dates canceled for unspecified reasons. A bond of $50,000 was set and posted, and he has not yet entered a plea.
The inmate involved was arrested by Bonners Ferry Police Department on a misdemeanor warrant from Kootenai County. According to a probable cause affidavit by Sheriff's Detective Brandon Blackmore, the man was intoxicated and reportedly verbally abusive and uncooperative with jail staff.
After a heated verbal exchange, Brown allegedly shoved the inmate against a glass window inside the holding cell and punched him, causing his head to hit a brick wall. The inmate tried to stop the blows by grabbing Brown’s arms but did not otherwise resist.
The affidavit states Brown "grabbed the man’s throat with both hands and slammed his head into the brick wall."
The Herald does not disclose victim names in criminal cases.
Summary: Bryant Brown is charged with aggravated battery following an incident involving an intoxicated, uncooperative inmate, with a court hearing set for November 17, 2025.
