Jeopardy! issued an apology following backlash from viewers about a puzzling clue featured on the game show. Host Ken Jennings shared a TikTok video after admitting he didn’t understand the clue.
On Friday, October 24, the show's category was “Daddy is there really a…” with the clue, “No: A.I. Generated The TikTok Image of this pig/human eventually killed by Tim Cheese.” None of the contestants buzzed in. The correct response was “Who is John Pork?”
After reading the clue, Jennings commented,
“I didn’t understand any of that,”which prompted laughter from the contestants.
John Pork is a viral internet figure known as a pig-human hybrid created digitally. The image depicts a man’s body with a pig’s head. TikTok users humorously claimed he had “died,” sparking the online trend “RIP John Pork.”
In 2023, rumors circulated that he had been shot and killed, but he continues to post videos on TikTok.
Following criticism that John Pork existed before AI, making the clue inaccurate, Jeopardy! released an apology video. They stated:
“When we played a clue recently on Jeopardy! about John Pork, I remarked that ‘I didn’t understand a word of it.’ Well, I’ve had the chance to learn quite a bit since that clue aired about the late Mr. Pork, including the fact that some viewers took exception with our description of him as AI-generated.
Now, even though AI is used heavily in many of his TikToks, it’s possible that wasn’t the best wording to refer to his original appearances.”
Jeopardy! clarified the controversy by apologizing for the misleading AI reference in a clue about John Pork, a viral figure often created and enhanced through AI content.
