MWL Expresses Deep Concern over UN Reports of Famine in Sudan

The Muslim World League (MWL) voiced serious concern about alarming United Nations reports describing the severe humanitarian crisis and widespread famine in several regions of Sudan.

Statement from MWL Leadership

Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, Secretary-General of the MWL and Chairman of the Association of Muslim Scholars, stated that famine is now unfolding in Sudan before the eyes of the international community — for the second time in less than a year.

According to the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) September report, famine has been confirmed in the towns of El-Fasher and Kadugli, while 20 other areas remain at high risk.

Call for International Response

Al-Issa emphasized that this declaration represents an urgent appeal to the global community to intensify efforts to save the Sudanese people.

He urged immediate and decisive actions to end the atrocities against civilians, bring violators to justice, and ensure adherence to international humanitarian law and the Jeddah Declaration principles on protecting civilians and enabling humanitarian access.
