Cambrian College Suspends Six More Programs Due to Decrease in International Students

Cambrian College is halting new admissions for six additional programs, mainly because changes in federal government policies have led to a decline in international student enrollment. This follows the suspension of 10 programs earlier this spring for similar reasons as the college faces a projected deficit of $1.4 million for the 2025-2026 academic year after years of surplus.

Program Suspension Details

The college's board approved the latest suspensions in November. Janice Clarke, Cambrian’s vice-president, academic, attributed the cuts largely to a significant drop in students linked to changes by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

“Our energy has just been devoted to trying to save as many jobs as we can,” said the faculty union president.
