The Diocese of Auchi in Nigeria announced the death of a young seminarian, Emmanuel Alabi, who was kidnapped along with two fellow seminarians by bandits in July 2025. While Japhet Jesse and Joshua Aleobua were later freed, Emmanuel Alabi died during the ordeal.
Father Linus Imoedemhe, assistant director of communications for the diocese, confirmed the tragic loss and noted the release of the other two seminarians. He said:
"Emmanuel Alabi died in the course of the ordeal."
Bishop Gabriel Dunia expressed profound sorrow and urged security agencies to increase efforts to protect citizens’ lives and property.
The diocese reaffirmed its dedication to faith, peace, and justice, trusting in God's mercy to comfort the bereaved family, the seminary community, and others impacted by the tragedy.
