Nashville Predators forward Ryan O’Reilly is becoming a notable trade candidate this NHL season.
On a recent Oilersnation Everyday episode, David Pagnotta from The Fourth Period highlighted that O’Reilly’s name is resurfacing in trade talks. As Nazem Kadri gains attention, the demand for centers is already building early in November and is likely to intensify as the season progresses.
The 34-year-old center, who is a pending free agent, carries a manageable $4.5 million cap hit. This contract was one of Barry Trotz’s initial moves as the general manager in 2023. Initially seen as a stop-gap to mentor younger players and transition toward a third-line role, O’Reilly exceeded expectations with a strong comeback.
O’Reilly remains a crucial presence for the Predators. However, if the team fails to show significant improvement, the offers for the veteran center may be hard for Barry Trotz to decline.
“If Nashville does not go on a serious push soon, perhaps O’Reilly, a pending free agent, could be on the move again at some point,” said Pagnotta.
Author’s summary: Ryan O’Reilly’s solid performance and affordable contract make him a valuable trade asset for Nashville if the team’s season doesn’t improve soon.
