AFLW: Biddell reflects on road to 75 games as Crows eye finals success

AFLW: Chelsea Biddell Reflects on Milestone as Crows Target Finals

Adelaide defender Chelsea Biddell is set to play her 75th AFLW game in the upcoming elimination final against St Kilda. At 27 years old, Biddell has developed her leadership skills both on and off the field, marking a significant personal journey.

Embracing Leadership

Being voted into the leadership group for the first time this season was a proud moment for Biddell, reflecting years of steady growth and persistence.

“That was pretty special to be announced as part of the leadership group this year, especially to be voted in by your peers, it’s very nice,” Biddell said.

She admitted that leadership did not come naturally at first and required hard work, especially in developing her communication style on the field.

“I had to work really hard on that part of my game, especially when I started to become one of the more experienced players. It’s definitely been challenging. In terms of on the field, I’m not really the loudest person, so I think it was just (developing) that voice and communication that I really had to build on.”

Journey to 75 Games

Biddell’s path to becoming a key defender was not straightforward. Initially drafted as a forward in 2019, she struggled to secure a permanent spot in the strong Crows lineup and moved between the team and reserves.

Her switch from forward to defense in 2022 proved pivotal, helping her cement her role in the Crows’ defensive unit.

Summary

Chelsea Biddell’s milestone game highlights her evolution from a forward fighting for selection to a trusted defender and leader in the Adelaide Crows AFLW squad.
