Fog and freezing rain are hitting the Calgary region

Fog and Freezing Rain Affect Calgary Region

The Calgary region is under two weather advisories this morning, November 7. Environment Canada has issued alerts for fog and freezing rain affecting communities from just south of Innisfail down to the Claresholm area.

Fog Advisory

Dense fog has reduced visibility to near zero in several areas, creating potentially dangerous travel conditions. The advisory notes that the fog is expected to linger until later this morning.

“Be prepared for areas of near-zero visibility and allow extra time to reach your destination. If driving, turn on your lights, slow down and maintain a safe following distance,” said Environment Canada.

Freezing Rain Warning

Areas west of Drumheller are expected to experience freezing rain lasting a few hours this morning, with possible ice accumulations up to two millimetres. These conditions may make roads and sidewalks slippery and hazardous.

“Roads and walkways will likely become icy and slippery. Icy surfaces could be difficult to detect. There is risk of injury due to slips and falls,” Environment Canada warned. “Be very careful if walking or driving.”
