Today was initially planned as the release date for Avengers: Secret Wars, a major Marvel Studios event. However, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is still more than two years away from this installment.
At San Diego Comic-Con 2022, Marvel Studios revealed its upcoming slate, including footage from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige shared exciting news:
Marvel announced Avengers: The Kang Dynasty for May 2025, followed by the highly anticipated Avengers: Secret Wars on November 7, 2025.
While Secret Wars was once scheduled for today, the release date has moved to December 17, 2027. This shift reflects major changes behind the scenes, including Marvel ending its association with Kang, played by Jonathan Majors. This impacted the storyline's direction significantly.
"The biggest was that Marvel severed ties with Kang himself, played by Jonathan Majors. That forced a total shift in where that current storyline was going."
Marvel’s Avengers: Secret Wars was slated for release today but has been postponed to late 2027 due to major creative changes, including losing a key actor.
