Alberta Health Services (AHS) has lifted the blue-green algae advisory for Eagle Lake, located southeast of Strathmore. The change took effect Wednesday following a drop in lake temperatures due to cooler weather, which has diminished the health risks associated with cyanobacteria, commonly known as blue-green algae.
Earlier, the lake, situated in Wheatland County about 45 minutes east of Calgary, was under an advisory warning residents to avoid contact with the algae. Officials also warned against using untreated lake water for drinking or cooking purposes.
"Boiling does not remove the toxins," stated AHS, encouraging safer water practices during algae presence.
