Cochrane may host 2026 Ironman 70.3 Calgary

Cochrane could become the venue for the 2026 Ironman 70.3 Calgary if the town council grants approval. Platinum Racing Events, the organizers behind Ironman 70.3 Calgary, have proposed relocating the race to Cochrane after Harmony Park became unavailable due to ongoing construction.

Event details and schedule

The two-day competition is planned for July 25–26, 2026, with event setup starting on July 24. The triathlon, now in its 17th year, is expected to attract about 1,100 participants from as many as 26 countries, in addition to around 500 spectators and 300 volunteers.

Participation and travel

Organizers estimate that roughly 40 percent of competitors will travel more than 300 kilometres to attend. Last year’s edition featured athletes representing 16 countries, highlighting the event’s international appeal.

Race components and route

If approved, participants will complete a 1.9-kilometre swim at Ghost Lake, a 90-kilometre cycling route along the rural roads north of Cochrane, and a 21.1-kilometre run throughout the town’s pathway network and river corridor. A relay version for teams of two or three will also be available.

Community and side events

Additional activities planned for July 24–25 include a Kids Fun Run, vendor booths, and athlete package pickup. The main race day is set for July 26, with the Historic Cochrane Ranche proposed as the event headquarters.

“Platinum Racing Events proposes that Cochrane become the new home of Ironman 70.3 Calgary in 2026, showcasing the community’s landscape and spirit.”

Summary

The proposed move would bring an internationally recognized triathlon to Cochrane in 2026, highlighting the town’s scenic outdoor spaces and community engagement.
