On Friday morning, Calgary experienced a shift from foggy conditions to snowfall. Snow began falling downtown around 8:30 a.m., moving southward after starting in the northern areas of the city.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) issued a fog advisory due to poor visibility, also warning about possible rain, snow, or freezing rain.
“Precipitation was in the forecast for the morning hours, but our temperature stayed just cool enough to keep most of that mix as snow. Once it’s gone, it’s pretty much gone, and as we enter the 9 o’clock hour, we can expect most of that to fully back away,” said Kevin Stanfield, meteorologist at 660 NewsRadio.
“Our high today hits 3 C, so any area that caught a new coat will likely see that melt off too.”
Drivers are advised to exercise caution on the roads due to the changing weather conditions.
Despite the snowfall, the weather is expected to clear quickly as temperatures rise above freezing.
