Jennifer Lawrence has inspired intimate portraits by Wolfgang Tillmans, Elizabeth Peyton, and Philippe Parreno for W Magazine. These new works are part of the magazine’s portrait series, which since 2006 has showcased notable figures through the eyes of contemporary artists.
Lawrence admits she is not skilled at drawing, except for a simple horse head profile she can sketch with a playful touch. This personal quirk came up during her interview for the magazine's Art Issue.
Previous issues featured artists like Mickalene Thomas photographing Cardi B, Barbara Kruger adding text over a nude Kim Kardashian, and George Clooney merging into Yayoi Kusama’s polka dot world. This edition uniquely features Lawrence portrayed by three different artists, each capturing a distinct angle of the 35-year-old actor.
“We wanted to work with artists who approached portraiture in different ways and who worked in different mediums. Of course, it was also important that we connected to them on a personal level,”
said Sara Moonves, editor in chief at W Magazine, via email.
She added,
“Each of them approached the collaboration differently, but with great commitment and care.”
Each artist contributes their own medium and perspective to celebrate Lawrence's personality and presence.
Author's summary: Jennifer Lawrence collaborated with three contemporary artists, resulting in distinct portraits that showcase her multifaceted persona through different artistic styles.
