Jennifer Lawrence has announced that What Happens at Night, directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Leonardo DiCaprio, is set to begin filming in 2026.
This upcoming film is the 27th feature by Scorsese and centers on an American couple who travel to a snowy European city intending to adopt a baby. However, they encounter a series of strange events.
The movie is adapted from Peter Cameron’s 2020 novel of the same name.
The couple meets characters “ranging from an ancient, flamboyant chanteuse to a debauched businessman to an enigmatic faith healer.” The narrative explains, “Nothing is as it seems in this baffling, frozen world, and the more the couple struggles to claim their baby, the less they seem to know about their marriage, themselves, and life itself.”
Besides Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence, no other cast members have been announced yet.
Lawrence shared with IndieWire her hopes for production to start in early 2026:
“Hopefully, a January/February situation. But one never knows with these things. I’ll believe it when I’m there. Leo and I worked together on Don’t Look Up.”
