What’s happening for Remembrance Day in Niagara-on-the-Lake

Remembrance Day in Niagara-on-the-Lake

The moment is approaching when all of Canada will unite to honor soldiers who have fought and continue to fight to protect the country and its people—during the First World War, Second World War, and beyond.

Businesses throughout Niagara-on-the-Lake are distributing poppies, and residents wear them proudly on their jackets and shirts. Poppy displays can be found at several community landmarks, including the Niagara-on-the-Lake Museum, the Historic Court House, the RiverBrink Art Museum, and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 124 on King Street.

The museum’s poppy campaign started in October, with staff placing 75 poppy wreaths around the heritage district.

Al Howse, president of the legion, said, “Everything,” referring to preparations, “has kept us busy.”

The legion’s poppy drive began on October 11, with members actively collecting donations and distributing poppies in the streets. “Donations go to our poppy trust fund which supports veterans and their families,” Howse explained. Poppies are available in 200 local businesses, with thousands already distributed.

A range of commemorative events will be held in Niagara-on-the-Lake leading up to and on Remembrance Day, November 11.

Summary: Niagara-on-the-Lake prepares for Remembrance Day with poppy displays, donation drives, and various community events honoring veterans and their sacrifices.
