First and Last Bakery, LLC, based in Hartford, Connecticut, has issued a recall for several tomato sauce products following a health risk identified by the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection.
The sauces were distributed in Connecticut and Massachusetts through Big Y and possibly other retailers. Distribution occurred from September 22, 2025, through October 28, 2025. Production and sales have been suspended until full regulatory compliance is confirmed. As of now, no illnesses have been reported.
All recalled products are sold in 26 FL OZ jars and carry the brand name First and Last, with various UPC numbers identified by the manufacturer.
The products were processed without an approved scheduled process or sufficient evaluation to ensure safety. Improper processing of acidified or low-acid canned foods can lead to the formation of Clostridium botulinum toxin.
Botulism, a potentially fatal type of food poisoning, can cause general weakness, dizziness, double vision, and difficulty speaking or swallowing. Breathing problems, muscle weakness, abdominal swelling, and constipation are also possible.
Consumers are advised to stop using the recalled products immediately and return them to the place of purchase for a refund or proper disposal.
This recall involves unsafe tomato sauces from a Connecticut bakery, linked to potential botulism risk, though no illnesses have been reported so far.
