San Antonio Spurs forward Julian Champagnie swapped his jersey for a Scooby-Doo costume this Halloween to surprise young patients at Methodist Children’s Hospital. Accompanied by the Spurs' mascot, Coyote, Champagnie handed out candy, took photos, and engaged warmly with the children, adding joy to the hospital's festive atmosphere.
Each Halloween, Methodist Children’s Hospital transforms its space with unique themes and detailed decorations, with staff dressing in costumes to match. A notable tradition is the reverse trick-or-treating event, where hospital leadership personally visits patient rooms to distribute treats.
This year’s event was especially memorable with Julian Champagnie’s participation alongside the Emergency Services Facility Dogs—Lady, Fresca, and Chanel—who were dressed as a surgeon, witch, and spider, respectively.
"I didn’t make a wish, but it felt like one. It was inspirational to see the actual walking dream. I didn’t think I was this special, but he made me feel like I was," shared Jamal Magee, a patient.
"I appreciate the hospital for giving me this opportunity. For him to stop by and show some love meant so much to me. It’s hard to describe."
Such visits bring invaluable comfort and happiness to children during difficult times.
