Canon EOS R6 Mark III – 33MP Sensor & 7K Open Gate Internal RAW Recording

Canon has introduced the new EOS R6 Mark III, sharing many features with the Canon EOS C50 but designed more for still photography. Despite this, the R6 Mark III retains strong video capabilities.

The R6 Mark III succeeds the R6 Mark II, which was released over three years ago. The original R6 debuted in July 2020.

Sensor Details

The camera features the same 32MP 3:2 full-frame sensor found in the EOS C50, an upgrade from the 24.2MP CMOS sensor in the R6 Mark II.

The sensor does not utilize Dual Gain Output (DGO) or a back-illuminated stacked CMOS sensor seen in models like the EOS C80 and EOS C400.

It’s interesting to see that the R6 Mark III and C50 don’t feature a Back Illuminated Stacked sensor like the C80 and C400, and R3. One of the reasons a lot of companies are now utilizing back-illuminated stacked CMOS sensors is that they allow for better AF performance.

Processor

The camera is powered by the DIGIC DV 7 processor, the same one used in the C50, C80, C400, C500 Mark II, and C300 Mark III.

Summary: The Canon EOS R6 Mark III blends high-resolution still photography with advanced video features, sharing key tech with the EOS C50 but optimized for hybrid shooters.
