Jasmine Crockett Hit With Ethics Complaint Over Failure To Disclose Stock Holdings

Jasmine Crockett Faces Ethics Complaint Over Undisclosed Stock Holdings

Representative Jasmine Crockett (D., Texas) is under scrutiny for allegedly concealing her ownership of stock in at least 25 companies on her congressional financial disclosures, according to a recent complaint reported by the Washington Free Beacon.

Crockett’s Stock Portfolio Background

As a Texas state lawmaker in 2021, Crockett disclosed owning a significant stock portfolio with shares in 28 companies spanning pharmaceutical, fossil fuel, technology, automobile, and marijuana industries.

However, in her 2021 congressional financial disclosures, Crockett omitted 25 of those stocks, including shares in firms that could benefit from legislation she introduced in Congress.

Ethics Complaint Details

The Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust (FACT), a nonpartisan watchdog group, filed the complaint with the Office of Congressional Conduct. FACT argues that Crockett’s failure to fully disclose her stock holdings may constitute a violation of the Ethics in Government Act.

“When Members of Congress fail to accurately and fully disclose their financial interests, it undermines the integrity of our government and erodes the public’s trust,”

said FACT executive director Kendra Arnold to the Free Beacon.

Under the Ethics in Government Act, knowingly and willfully submitting false financial disclosures can lead to prison time for politicians.

Summary

The complaint alleges that Crockett’s nondisclosure of a large portion of her stock portfolio raises serious ethical and legal questions under federal law.
