Shoppers are warned that consuming certain jars of tomato sauce from First and Last Bakery, LLC, based in Connecticut, could pose a deadly health threat due to contamination with Clostridium botulinum, the bacterium responsible for botulism.
The US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) announced the recall after discovering the sauces were produced without an approved schedule, compromising the safety process designed to prevent bacterial growth.
“While no illnesses have been reported to date, since Botulism is a potentially fatal form of food poisoning, anyone who purchased the affected sauces has been urged to return them to where they were purchased from for a full refund.”
Botulism results from the growth of Clostridium botulinum, which can develop if low-acid or acidified canned foods are improperly processed, leading to potentially lethal food poisoning.
Author's summary: A serious recall has been announced for three tomato sauces due to botulism risk, urging consumers to return them for a refund and avoid potentially fatal poisoning.
