Consumers are being advised to return several tomato-based pasta sauces due to a serious contamination threat. The recall was initiated by First and Last Bakery, LLC, based in Connecticut, after discovering that some products may carry the deadly bacterium Clostridium botulinum.
No related illnesses have been reported yet. However, due to the severe danger posed by botulism, consumers are urged to stop using these sauces and return them for a full refund.
“Botulism is caused by toxins produced by Clostridium botulinum bacteria, which attack the nervous system and may result in paralysis.”
The U.S. Food & Drug Administration stated that the manufacturing process for these sauces had not been properly validated to prevent bacterial growth.
Clostridium botulinum thrives in low-acid or improperly processed canned foods. When conditions allow, it can produce toxins even in sealed containers, posing a potentially fatal threat.
Author’s Summary: Authorities warn that three tomato pasta sauces recalled for botulism risk should be returned immediately, as improper processing might cause lethal contamination.
