IRONMAN World Championship Kona 2025 results: Løvseth wins as brutal heat KOs Knibb and Charles-Barclay

IRONMAN World Championship Kona 2025 Results

Norway's Solveig Løvseth won the IRONMAN World Championship in Kona, overcoming brutal heat that led to the late withdrawal of front runners Taylor Knibb and Lucy Charles-Barclay.

The race saw dramatic scenes as Knibb and Charles-Barclay, who had dominated much of the race, suffered meltdowns late in the run due to the extreme conditions.

In a race for the ages, Britain's Kat Matthews cut down Løvseth's lead dramatically in the closing stages but just missed out by 35 seconds at the finish line.

Løvseth's victory marked her Kona debut and followed her impressive performance earlier in the season, where she set the fastest-ever IRONMAN time by a rookie in her first full-distance race.

Her win also echoed the success of compatriot Casper Stornes, who led a Norway clean sweep in the men's IMWC in Nice last month.

Author's summary: Løvseth wins Kona debut amidst dramatic scenes.
