First Alert Weather: Cool and Mainly Dry, Watching for First Snow Next Week

We’ve returned to Green on the Threat Tracker as winds have eased, leaving only scattered lake rain showers early this morning. By afternoon, skies turn partly to mostly sunny with highs in the mid-40s. Winds remain calm, with top gusts near 20 MPH.

Tomorrow, winds increase ahead of another front that will bring gusts up to 30 MPH and afternoon or evening rain. Saturday stays cool and cloudy with lighter winds. By Sunday, a low-pressure system passes, producing rain for our area and early snow across the lake.

Cold air Sunday night will wrap around the system, giving us our first chance for snow.

Higher elevations are most likely to see flakes overnight Sunday. By Monday, cold Canadian air will spread south through the U.S., producing some lake-effect flurries on northerly winds. Tuesday offers a stronger chance for lake-effect snow from Lake Ontario as the wind turns northwest.

Significant snow accumulations aren’t expected yet, but forecasts remain under review. Expect temperatures to stay cold, with highs stuck in the 30s on both Monday and Tuesday. A quick-moving clipper system will bring rain and gusty winds Wednesday.

Author’s Summary

A stretch of chilly, mostly dry weather will lead into the season’s first potential snow by late Sunday, with light flakes and colder air continuing early next week.
