A pattern shift brings the first blast of cold air this season in Marquette, Michigan.
Tonight, a system will bring light rain moving from west to east, ending by tomorrow morning. Scattered lake effect rain showers will continue through midday, transitioning to light lake effect snow showers in the northwest belts. Minor snowfall of a quarter to half an inch is expected.
This weekend marks the arrival of the first cold air mass. A deep trough in the jet stream will draw cold Canadian air into the Upper Midwest. Accompanying this will be an area of low pressure, resulting in the season’s first accumulating snow on Sunday.
"It will be light lake effect snow across the north and northwest wind belts, with a 20-50% probability in the north central U.P."
A TV6 First Alert Weather Day will be issued for Sunday due to slushy and slippery road conditions. Lake-effect snow showers are expected to continue into Monday.

Early cold air and lake effect snow will mark the start of winter, with cautious travel conditions expected in northern Michigan.
