A unique, hand-built full-size Spitfire MK IX reproduction will symbolize the courage and sacrifice of servicemen and women this Remembrance Sunday.
The replica Spitfire, created by Simply Spitfire, will be displayed in Millennium Place, Durham City, from 9:00am to 2:00pm on Sunday, 9 November.
2025 marks significant milestones: the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II and the 85th anniversary of the Battle of Britain. Cllr Andrew Harrison, Armed Forces Champion, wanted to honor these events with a special tribute.
With the backing of Squadron Leader (Retired) James A Cowan MBE and Simply Spitfire, the reproduction aircraft has been secured as a meaningful reminder of history.
The Spitfire will be displayed along the route of Durham City's annual Remembrance Parade, which runs from 10am to noon that morning.
“A unique reproduction Spitfire will act as a striking symbol of the bravery and sacrifice of those who have served in conflicts past and present this Remembrance Sunday.”
