Former India batter Robin Uthappa shared insight on Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling in the second T20I against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Uthappa believes Bumrah’s rare off day was caused by trying too hard to take wickets.
Speaking on Star Sports, Uthappa remarked that when Jasprit Bumrah becomes desperate for wickets, he tends to lose rhythm and discipline. This affected his bowling during India’s defense of 125 runs.
"When we were bowling after scoring 125, the start was very important. If we had picked up two or three wickets in the first three or four overs, the game could have been closer because we have quality spinners in the middle overs. I felt we were probably trying too hard to pick up wickets. So we got a little wayward."
Uthappa highlighted that Bumrah’s occasional lapses in control are linked to his eagerness to make an early breakthrough. This impatience can cause wayward deliveries, especially when the team needs quick wickets.
Author’s summary: Robin Uthappa suggests Jasprit Bumrah’s occasional off days are linked to over-eagerness for wickets, disrupting his natural rhythm and discipline on the field.
